Radisson Blu Hotel, Edinburgh
Newhey Carpets, a leading British manufacturer and designer of innovative, high performance and sustainable commercial carpets recently supplied over 9000 square metres of Colortec+ carpet for Radisson Blu Hotel, Edinburgh. The elegant hotel sits prominently overlooking the capital city of Scotland. The hotel’s attractive 16th century façade compliments the historic medieval architecture of the city. For a number of years Newhey have developed a strong partnership with the Radisson brand and have been involved in a wide range of projects for the hotel chain.
For this project, Newhey worked closely with the Herefordshire interior design firm, Trevillion Interiors, to provide a solution for the hotel’s carpets. Newhey were asked to create a simple texture in smokey green and grey shades for the guestrooms and suites. Splashes of yellow were introduced in the cushions to compliment the neutral scheme.
The meeting rooms and breakout areas also required bespoke carpets. With a more intricate design specified for the meeting rooms, Newhey created a concept that featured neutral colours. The design depicts a street map of the city which looks stunning against the wall mural of Edinburgh Castle and the Scottish Pipe Band. Meanwhile the breakout areas feature a neutral but stylish geometric design with turquoise soft seating and hints of yellow on the tables, walls and floor lamps.
The carpet designs throughout the hotel were all created using Newhey’s state-of-the-art Colortec+ technology. Colortec+ allows Newhey to implement complex and bespoke designs onto tufted carpet, while still keeping its durable properties.
The carpet also features Newhey’s secondary backing system ‘evobac’, a form of sustainable backing technology, exclusive to Newhey, made using 100% recycled plastic bottles and applied at their factory in Rochdale.
