This stylish boutique hotel opened in May 2021 after a 2-year refurbishment costing £18m and was originally ‘The Telegraph Building’ home to the City’s newspaper for over 50 years.
The project’s main contractor Harrabin Construction Ltd, has created a hotel with 88 uniquely-styled guestrooms, 160 seat convention room, meeting rooms, 110 cover restaurant, two ground floor bars and a panoramic rooftop bar overlooking Belgrade Square.
The guestroom and public space interiors were designed by Oliver Redfern of Squid Inc who Newhey have worked with previously, providing custom made carpets for Manchester’s award winning 5-star, Grade II listed Hotel Gotham, also operated by Bespoke Hotels.
Oliver specified ‘Atlas’ from Newhey’s Connect Naturals stock collection of wool-rich hospitality carpets. Textured and sophisticated, the pattern is an inspired geometric design in warm contrasting greys.
Bespoke colortec carpets were designed for the corridors with inspiration for the design taken from the original chequerboard flooring. Bespoke carpet was also supplied for the function areas for this exciting new hotel in the centre of the City of Culture 2021. In total over 4,300 square metres of beautiful wool-rich, heavy commercial carpets were expertly fitted by flooring contractor Midlands Flooring Ltd.

Newhey understand that sustainability is increasingly important to specifiers and end users and are constantly striving to find innovative ways to improve their production processes. Which is why in 2013, the company launched a secondary backing system called ‘evobac’, produced from post-consumer recycled PET. Every square metre of carpet produced with evobac prevents at least eight plastic bottles from going to landfill or entering our oceans – that’s a total of 34,400 plastic bottles for this project alone and 13 million since 2013.
