A venue of this size requires a vast amount of carpet which is capable of withstanding heavy footfall. The client, ETC Venues, selected Newhey to provide over 2,000 square metres of bespoke Colortec tufted wool-rich carpet.
What attracted ETC Venues to Newhey was the fact that we specialise in producing exceptionally durable, heavy contract quality carpets that will stand the rigours of busy events.
That isn’t the only reason why 133 Houndsditch is wall-to-wall with our Colortec carpets throughout the conference areas and meeting rooms. Bespoke highly creative design played a major factor.
The décor of the venue consists of modern colourful furniture, stimulating artwork and contemporary design. Our carpets needed to also make a splash. The Newhey design team created a highly distinctive bespoke bold geometric design in warm purply greys with rich mustard yellow highlights.
What was unusual about this project was that we took the design to a whole new level. For each area, we manufactured similar designs, but we scaled the design up or down depending upon the size of the area. So, smaller more intimate meeting rooms had a smaller scale repeat of the design. Vast open conference floors carried an exploded version of the design that has real impact.
Sustainability was also a priority for the client when specifying a carpet manufacturer. Our Evobac carpet backing materials are made from 100% recycled PET post-consumer plastic. For each square metre specified, eight plastic bottles were saved from going to landfill – that’s a total of 16,000 for this project alone.
The carpets must have been well-received and admired as we are currently in the process of manufacturing 1,000 square metres for another floor at 133 Houndsditch. That’s another 8,000 plastic bottles saved thanks to Evobac and one of the most innovative conference venues in The City of London.
