The Parkgate Hotel, Cardiff (part of The Celtic Collection)

The Parkgate Hotel, Cardiff, owned by The Celtic Collection, has recently opened following an extensive redevelopment of two iconic Grade II listed buildings into a stylish and sophisticated hotel.

Overlooking the famous Principality Stadium and in collaboration with the Welsh Rugby Union, the hotel has been developed by Rightacres and is operated by The Celtic Collection, the group behind The Celtic Manor Resort. Having previously been the home to the city’s Post Office and County Court House, developers have cautiously retained many of its original features from the turn of the 20th Century.

Newhey worked towards a design brief provided by Goddard Littlefair, based in London, the interior design firm in charge of the restoration and design of this stunning hotel.

Over 6,000 square metres of luxurious bespoke 80/20 carpet was designed and manufactured for the guestrooms and corridors by Newhey at their factory and head office, which is situated in Rochdale on the outskirts of Manchester. Supplied in 4 metres wide, the design specified for the guestrooms reflects the chic blend of classic meets contemporary luxury with a neutral sophisticated colour palette. The corridor carpet follows the same stylish palette keeping the flow of sophistication through each area.

Hotel manager Brady Smith said: “The Parkgate Hotel combines stylish innovation with the elegance of yesteryear as it breathes new life into two of the city centre’s most historic buildings. As a result, the design concept wanted to strike a balance between classic luxury and contemporary sophistication. The luxurious carpets supplied by Newhey meet this brief perfectly and provide a wonderful addition to the exceptional experience we offer our guests.”

All carpets manufactured by Newhey are backing with an eco-friendly secondary backing called ‘evobac’ produced from post-consumer PET.  This project alone prevented approximately 48,000 plastic bottles from going to landfill or entering our oceans.
